Ventas, Inc.’s (NYSE: VTR) (“Ventas” or the “Company”) Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer, Debra A. Cafaro, was recognized by the Harvard
Business Review (“HBR”) in its 2014 list of “The Best-Performing
CEOs in the World.” Cafaro was ranked number 27 out of 100 chief
executive officers. This esteemed list ranks executives on their
contribution to long-term company growth. HBR looked specifically at
increase in total shareholder return and market capitalization in
formulating its rankings.
The annual ranking was determined from a list of CEOs in the S&P Global
1200 at the end of 2013. For each executive, HBR looked at three
metrics: industry-adjusted shareholder returns, country-adjusted
shareholder returns, and increase in market capitalization over the
CEO’s tenure. Recognizing that being a good CEO is about far more than
just investment performance, HBR asked the Reputation Institute to rank
the top 100 CEOs on skills such as work environment, citizenship,
governance and leadership.
During her tenure at the Company beginning in 1999 through the
measurement date, Ventas delivered 1,761 percent in total shareholder
return, adjusted by country, and 1,636 percent in total shareholder
return, adjusted by industry. The Company’s market capitalization has
increased $20 billion during her tenure.
